When we are faced with a failure, psychologists tell us that we usually do one of two things: give up or try harder. While these are common responses, they are both broken and flawed. They both are built from our beliefs about ourselves and based on pride. One focuses on defeat and the other on our own abilities. When this process is applied to the church, it gets really messy and people get damaged.
